Giving Back to the CommunityDeWhit, Inc. believes in serving the surrounding community and improving the quality of life of community members. This is a company which welcomes the opportunity to give back and which exhibits its generous nature in contributions and donations to educational institutions including Clemson University, Benedict College, University of North Carolina, Christ Church Episcopal School, South Carolina State University, the United Negro College Fund, Southside High School Booster Club, Greenville Tech, and Share HeadStart Programs. These contributions aid in providing scholarships, school supplies and sports equipment. In addition to its ongoing interest in education-related donations, DeWhit also supports various local and healthcare-related organizations such as the Urban League of the Upstate, Meals on Wheels, BMW Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society, Mauldin Sports Center, and the United Way African American Leadership. Mr. Charles Whitner, president of DeWhit, Inc, serves as an active member of the Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church in Mauldin, SC, where he encourages the youth with his spirit of generosity. Mr. Whitner also participates in the annual Golden Strip Golf Foundation’s tournament, a program which mentors children and introduces them to the game of golf. In line with its standard of giving back to the community from which it serves, DeWhit, Inc. has most recently made sizable contributions to the Science Department of Greer Middle School, Charter High School and to Greenville Tech to help begin the Buck Mickel Scholarship for Career Training. The Buck Mickel Scholarship for Career Training will be made available to a student in Greenville Tech’s Corporate and Career Development Division, a program in which much of the education and training actually takes place in the Buck Mickel Center. When asked about the company’s contributions, Charles Whitner stated, “At DeWhit, we emphasize education and teamwork and try to give back to the community whenever possible. We hire individuals from many different educational backgrounds and ethnicities and we value each and every one of them.
