Thirty years ago, when I started DeWhit, Inc., I didn’t know a whole lot about the cleaning business, but I knew how to work hard. My first client was a Little Caesars Pizza location. Although good business, it wasn’t enough to support my family. With that as my motivation, I secured a second job cleaning a newly constructed million-dollar house for a gentleman who was doing the building. Having never done construction cleaning before, I quoted the gentleman $1500 for what I thought was going to be about three days’ work. Well a month later I was still in that house cleaning. Still doing what I promised, no matter how long it took, I was a man of my word. But I learned a great lesson about myself and my word. At the end of the job the gentleman said to me “Charles, you are a dedicated person. I had $6,000 in the budget for the cleaning. You’ve proven to me that you’re a top notch person and you do good work.” He gave me a check for $6,000 and DeWhit was on its way.
"We are here to serve you, just like we did thirty years ago, with honesty, integrity, and hard work."
Honesty, integrity, and hard work are traits that are not learned; they come from inside a man. When a man has a vision of a company, his traits become the company. DeWhit has come to stand for honesty, integrity, and hard work. Just like Charles Whitner.
